Pupils typically focus on reading and writing in French in the last year of the pre-primary section (age five to six), whilst continuing with spoken English. Those who complete the primary school will be bilingual by the end of the sixth year. Teaching is split equally between English and French, allowing for immersion in both languages. Specialist teachers support children with limited English or French.
