Hummus in the DNA

In the Middle East, hummus has been part of the cuisine for ages. “It’s such a healthy and tasty food and we want everybody in Amsterdam to experience our passion for it,” explains Dikla Arama of d&a hummus bistro. “It’s part of our DNA.”

In search of a new adventure, and due to their love for hummus, Arama and her partner Adi Goldberg started d&a hummus bistro in 2015. “We opened our first bistro in 2015 in Jordaan, a neighbourhood that fitted perfectly with what we want to bring to our guests: a lively and cosy place where everybody is welcome.” Soon after, they opened their second location on Oostburgergracht in Amsterdam East, right across from ‘t IJ Brewery. “The second-hand furniture gives it the authenticity of a Middle Eastern street-food bar.”

“Hummus has everything you need nutrition wise, and it is very sustainable to produce,” she continues. It is full of carbohydrates and a real treat for people who are either vegan or vegetarian. All dishes are served with free salads and home baked pita bread. You can also choose to have meat or chicken included as part of your meal. And you can order from a selection of fine wines and boutique beers. “It can be overwhelming to choose, so we have our ‘this and that’ option, where you can taste everything from the menu. Guests often come back for that,” Arama smiles.

“We just want you to feel at home in our bistro, as if you are a guest at our house, enjoying high-quality food and our love for it.”
